Default Humming Sound

180Q 3500 miles
Strange hum or buzzing sound at 2200-2900 RPM. Last 2-3 seconds seems to be worse after turning. Noise occurs early in acceleration appears to be coming from beneath shift towards engine.
Dealer drove car and did not hear noise. Its intermittent and annoying!
Anyone else with problem and/or solution?

Thanks

Default I have the same thing...

Kind of an intermittent hum that occurs every once in a while and seems to be in low RPM's. Very annoying and cannot replicate it.

Default Me Too !

Have had it to the dealer twice for this problem.

First time, they said they heard nothing.

Second time, I drove with the service manager and he heard it ... said it's coming from the back. Made another appointment but suspect they will tell me they couldn't duplicate it.

Mine happens most times after the car is warm and when driving in excess of 45mph.

If they find it, I will post what they found.

If it sounds like blowing over the top of a soda bottle, it's the blow off valve!

Default That's the sound !

Or air or water through a pipe.

Why over 45 ?...

and the sound persists - once it's there it doesn't go away until under 45 mph.

Default common on 225s in the US and probably solved

Search around for comments by satyc a few days ago. Many of us have had the problem. He was able to get a fix that suggests a valve on the turbo with a spring in it. Apparently there are two flavors - one for the 225 and one for the 180. The suspicion is that some 225s were built with parts for the 180...

This has apparently been communicated to Audi in Auburn Hills, so get on your service manager on Monday and have them call the dealer tech line - I will be doing just that.

Hopefully this is the cure.

Default Service manager said it was the wastegate on the turbo but here's the link to satyc's comments.

Default get a new dump valve. (more)

that noise i discover is due to the leakage of the dump valve, i used to have that noise when ever i lift off the throttle in low rpm.

the dump valve is the black plastic valve right below the right hand window wiper under the hood. it has 2 tubes, one small on top and on big on the side connecting to the airfilter box.

i have a after market one made by Forge motorsports. the stock one cost around $35.

Hope this will help.
180FWD/17" BBS RXII/Pipercross filter/PIAA/Wetterauer/Remus/GReddy Turbo gauge-A-pillar mount/Forge Motorsport dump valve

Default This isn't the same problem that you had.

This problem occurs while you are accelerating up, not lifting off the throttle like you described.
