Hypothetical: You have about $25k to spend on a new car... What do you purchase?

Probably a stgIII++ TT Roadster.
Lol, jk Chris. If I wanted fast and reliable, I'd get a C5 Z06. If I wanted sporty and reliable, I'd consider the previous incarnation of an STi, or maybe a low mileage 350Z. If I wanted something with soul and class, I'd get an '87-95 911.

and you think the MS3 will have "soul"?
FWD w/ power would drive me mad. my dad has a mkV GTi. jab a little too much power with TCS off and the front wheels just spin, and spin... annoying.
i'm not a huge fan of the mkV, but to say it has less "soul" than the 1.8 baffles me. better handling, better engine.
the ms3 has the handling, power, and tin can like feel. yay.

Ha. The Vette is too big, IMO, and while I like the STi and the Z, I don't see living with them.
Not for very long anyway.
I couldn't afford to keep the Porsche in good repair, I don't think...
Oh, and I'd like to be able to take the dogs in the car on occasion, which is why I'd like to have a hatchback again...

I don't like it. A dealer gave me a new GTI on a 24 hour test drive.
I brought it back to them after 2.
Honestly, I wanted to feel like it was at least marginally inspiring, but it wasn't, and I found myself constantly flooring the car to make it the least bit enjoyable, but even then, it wasn't all that entertaining. =/
