Default I have a seized lug bolt... now what!?

Sheesh... nothing is ever easy. I tried to paint my calipers today but encountered a seized lug bolt. I broke two sockets before I took it over to my local tire shop. The shop guy spent 2 hours stripping the head... which is now basically round.

What should I do now!???

You need to un-seize that lug bolt..

Default Most tire shops...>

Have "Bolt outs" that, when used with a highpower impact, can get those out...
These can grip a rounded off head, provided they're skinny enough to get into the wheel lug hole..

Default drill through the head. take wheel off. then prob weld something to the bolt or>>

use insane vice grips to get the rest of it off. had to that on my last car. not fun.

Default This happened to me. Tire shop broke two-high powered impact wrenches before giving up.

First one was 350 ft-lbs of torque and the other was 500. Both of them broke. And as Steve mentioned, they were using bolt-out sockets for stripped heads.

Took it to the dealer. They let it soak with penetrant for an hour or so, and then according to the service manager, "forcibly coaxed it out."

I would say try soaking it with PB Blaster. This is the best penetrant and you can get it at Autozone. Then you need a high powered impact wrench and one of the bolt-out stripped thread sockets. (Sears makes them for impact wrenches.)

Now I use anti-sieze every time I remove my lugs. I recommend you do too. Imagine if this happened when you had a flat tire in the middle of nowhere!
