I hear I can visually inspect the Timing belt in less than an hour? perhaps the upper cover?

01 225hp roadster with 18,500 miles.

Can I get the upper timing cover off easily?
What needs to come off to reach the clips?
Is there some other way?
Dealership and local independent say 30 minutes so it can't be very hard.
I just want to get a visual on the belt, I know everyone says to change it based on age.
Thanks in advance

It's not the belt that fails...

Default I'm not sure it's worth your time....>

but yeah, just pop that top cover to take a look. Bad belts don't cause the failures we experience though. Seized water pumps, tensioners that lose their tension etc. are 99.9% of the problem and take out the belt in the process. The end result is the same, but I can't recall one instance where a belt alone failed..

this was an ECS metal pump...bad angle, but basically it is perfect...

And the timing belt itself....was surprisingly in good shape..

Default Those pumps are notoriously bad.

Mine went out at 43K. Ended up doing the whole TB job at the time to save on labor.

Hmmm ... I'm thinking on my next replacement, doing the pump too may be overkill.
