It's the lack of that distinctive hard crease line between the C pillar and rear quarter panel/hatch lid transition point. It was an innovation to be able to put that into production since it used new manufacturing techniques. It could certainly be disguised on the Mk II mules to be kept as a last minute surprise as like the rear quarter panel windows were on the Mk I mules. The latest sketch is "sketchy" in this regard... perhaps intentionally?

I'm probably in the minority here, but>>>>
I have to admit I didn't love the existing TT design until after it grew on me. Definitely was not, "Wow, gotta have it" when it first came out.
I'll wait until the new model is out for a couple years and go from there...
Man, I saw a Acura NSX the other day (granted it was not in very good shape) but I thought it looked terrible (a design I really loved when it first came out)... The design didn't "age" very well... I think the current TT design has and will age very well.. IMHO.

Funny, but I was the exact opposite with the Mk I. My first reaction was "I HAVE TO HAVE THAT CAR!"
The Mk II TT is not doing that for me... at least not yet.

That's exactly my feelings as well. I kinda stood back when Audi
released the MK1 TT as I thought it was one helluva brave design. It seemed to be light years ahead of the opposition, and maybe too many light years ahead to make any sales (sometimes it can scare people off, rather than attract them). To ME though I just fell in love with it (unfortunately a car I couldn't afford at the time).
I just ain't all that over the new TT. Maybe it's because it's like a top movie - sometimes the first episode is the best, all the follow-ups are just glorified copies.

Ditto here. The oldtimers might remember that my story was told in Audi Magazine...
...in the very early days. To make a long story short, the Neiman Marcus 1999 Christmas catalog showed up in the mail. I took one look at the TT and thought, "Holy ****e! What is that? I must have one!".
I thought that the car would be $70k+ and was very pleasantly surprised at the price. I bought one sight unseen (except for that catalog) because it was definitely love at first sight. When I bought the car, I didn't even know that the interior was good looking!
