Default well the difference is that at the time the TT was designed and came out

225 was more than adequate. In the last 10 years HP has gotten insanely cheap. Look at the hp numbers for the 98/99 S4s. Our car is long in the tooth.
The TT is my daily driver. I was so impressed w/ the interior room, i lent my beater car to my bro in college. As a young single guy, I have no need for more room.

Oh, at 31mpg, I am loving it....even though it costs 35 for a full tank.

Default fair enough...I guess the poseur portion of my rant

was directed at the urban/suburban dwellers that churnh up the miles with 1 or 2 people in any given time.

with that said, it is nice that we live in a country that allows us to be as wasteful(stupid) as we'd like.

Default When you think about it, the weight of the average vehicle compared to what they're hauling....

is ridiculous. For example: 3500lbs per vehicle hauling 150-200 lbs of passenger weight is very inefficient. Hummers are one of the worst offenders, but most other vehicles are far from being efficient also. If nothing else, maybe it will raise people's awareness of how wasteful it is. The most offending thing about large vehicles is imagining yourself being crushed by one...that's what bothers me the most about large SUVs. That same fear is one of the things that drives people to buy one....it's crush or be crushed. $.02

Default I'm with you. Just because you have the money to get something like that, doesn't mean...>>

you should.

I have talked with sever H2 owners at the gas station (hehe) and had asked them why they bought them. Most responses are they need something larger (get it). After they pay close to $80, they drive away to fill up a few days later.

I suppose if GM would make a SUV that is larger than the H2 and only gets 2 MPH on the highway and the ad guys sell it as the next greatest thing, there will be people buy it and try to convince you why they did....and that's why GM is in trouble too.

Oh well, only in America.

I couldn't live with a car that used as much gas as either one you mention.

Default

it still was more of an image car then a true sports car. Image sells better then substance.

I would say that SUVs are not any safer then smaller cars. Roll over is a major factor.

Default yes and no

i cannot think of many sports coupes that had much more than 250hp in the summer of 00 - I think the vette, and some of the higher end porsches. beyond that, there is nothing else that i can think of...3000gt? beyond these, you had to look at exotics for more power.

the 300zx was less and so was the supra, IIRC.

the definition of powerful (hp-wise) has changed dramatically.

Default Safer when you're getting hit or doing the hitting, but more likely to roll-over, so it evens out.

...the general perception is that SUVs are safer, which increases the sales, whether the perception is right or wrong.
