The wife will object but there is a red 83 GTI for sale from someone in the neighborhood that I might just buy. Totally stock and aside from the faded paint job, its totally clean. I have always wanted this car but they are so rare and hard to come by anymore. This is not the car but looks similar.

Default Grab it!

Owning an 80s VW is a joy. I get a ton of compliments and comments like "I used to drive one of those back in the day!" and "Most fun car I ever had". It's kinda weird but when I first got my TT people would follow me into gas stations and parking lots to talk about it, now they do that with my Scirocco. Good luck and hope it works out!

Default Scirocco and GTI were THE cars when I was in high school

Its a nostalgic thing..I have always wanted one but was too poor back then. If this turns out fine, I will be one happy camper. I plan to make it 100% stock and make it look like new. More details of your Scirocco please?

Default Yep, totally agree!

Mine is an 87 16v. I've actually owned in since 93 and it was my daily driver up until 2000 when I bought the TT and the scirocco got to be a garage queen.

Mods: Coilover suspension, euro-lights, euro-bumpers, Ronal R10 wheels, lightened flywheel, schrick cams, TT exhaust w/borla, SS brakelines and a bunch more I can't remember right now.

Future mods: 2.0L motor

I hope you end up getting the GTI! Keep me posted.
