I saw a Lotus Elan convertible on the N-405 this morning. I've never seen one before.

Default A friend of mine bought the last one sold in the US

If you're talking about the Isuzu engined model sold here as a 1991 model, my friend in Houston bought the last new one in the US sometime around 1994. They originally sold for $40K and didn't exactly fly out of dealerships. Lotus later lowered the price to $30K (bet that made the early buyers happy) and my friend got his for around $25K and still has it. It's actually a pretty fun car and I think subjectively still looks pretty stylin' for a 10 year old car. The Japanese drivetrain is pretty reliable but the rest of the car has suffered from the legendary spotty British issues, Prince of Darkness electrics and all. Incidentally I saw a dark blue one just two days ago that I've never seen before in my town, and I thought my friend had told me about all of the others near here.
