will I be able to patch one in to extend it?

I dont have a laptop and unless I can find one relatively inexpensively, I would wnat to just run a cable down the the garage (it is directly below the room where my computer is) can I buy an extension cable?

Default I think they just use your computer's serial connector so...

...You should be able to find a serial cable extension fairly easily. I don't see any reason why it won't work. Of course, with this, you lose out on all the datalogging stuff that the systems are capable of.

Since these systems don't require much of a computer, I think you should be able to find a laptop really cheap that would work. I think anything with a Pentium processor (or a K6) and a serial port should work...Check their websites to verify that though.

Default Got a Vag at TT-East but have yet not been able to get it to function.....>>>

It is attached to the Computer with a simple serial cable. Mine's not recognizing the adaptor. Ross-Tech has not responded with anything that'll help at this point...

Default Well, interesting, that's the same problem I have right now, after it was working for over a year

Open the DB-9 connector cover.
See if there are any wires broken off the connector.

VAG-COM Pin-outs
1- 2 wht bridged
3 -blk
4 -red
5 -grn
6-N/A
7 -blu
8-N/A
9-N/A

BTW- I could not get it to work onna 486 machine.
