Default If you would love to upgrade your brakes but cant afford StopTechs raise your hand

I have been looking for an alternative solution to the StopTechs since my budget (her name is Kristie BTW) does not seem to think I will be getting them anytime soon.

I am interested in a few things when I upgrade my brakes.

-I am looking to decrease any brake fade that I can

-I am trying to cut down on the brake dust over the stock pads

-I am also trying to give my brakes a little *makeover* by making them a little more attractive

So I was finally able to locate some cross drilled rotors (they are cast not drilled BTW) and some new pads to make my brake setup the best it can be in stock form

I was able to find a few manufacturers that make slotted and drilled rotors but the upgrades were close to $800+ and that was way too much money.

I found a place that carries Zimmerman rotors and Hawk pads... Cross drilled rotors are $159 for the fronts and the rears were only $139.

Once I receive them and check to see that they fit I will let everyone know about them.

Would anyone be interested in such a combination?

Default skip the Hawk pads, I have heard nothing but horror stories about them . . .

they are a very hard coarse pad that will and can eat through a set of rotors in a single track day. They have ruined rotors in a few months of street driving. Various compounds too.

Stick with Pagid, Porterfield, EBC, Mintex and others, but skip the Hawk.

Default

Why not do what MTT did with the frozen slotted rotors and EBC pads?

Default I may take your advice on the Hawks because I have no experience with them

but I am definately looking to get the rotors. I am going to keep looking and researching the pads. Thanks for the heads up

Default I am thinking about getting the rotors cryo'ed but I must tell you that I have....

my heart set on the drilled vs. slotted.

I know alot of people will say that the drilled rotors are trouble because of stress cracks etc but I have had them on every car I have ever owned and have never had a problem.

I know function before fashion is the protocall but in this case, there is nothing that looks better than a set of drilled rotors

Keep in mind that my car will never likely see any track days

Default I maybe wrong but...

...I would have thought that turning your attention to caliper upgrades as opposed to the rotors would gain you more 'bang for your bucks'. Am I wrong?

Default Well....there is certainly nothing wrong with caliper upgrades but

the biggest defeciency in the TT's braking sytem is not really the caliper power, it is the related fade from numerous hard stops. This is a function of heat that is retained in the solid rotor, rubber hoses as opposed to stainless braided lines and pads that are not up to the task.

I absolutely love the Stoptech kit and would buy them if it fit into my plans, but they dont.

I am looking for a more inexpensive alternative

Default True, but...

...single spot calipers all round are pretty 'low-rent' these days, and the heat generation problem can be exacerbated by large area pads being operated by a single spot...much less effective and much more prone to pad flex.

I must say that I find the TT brakes a bit disappointing. The brakes on the 98 VTEC Prelude I traded on it (ventilated front, solid rear, twin spots front, single rear with ABS) were much better than my TT225QC's are.
