Default Illegal u-Turn = $600/yr in insurance!

I made an illegal uturn a couple months back (was following an SUV that did the same thing), and got caught for it. $50 ticket, and I just figured I'd pay it. So I find out from my insurance company today that my rate's gone up 33%; by $600 a year!

Does anyone have any ideas as to what I can do? It takes 6 years for this to disappear from my license, and so this'll cost me $3600 or so. Is there an appeals process for AFTER you've paid?

Switch insurance. You're getting shafted.

Default May not have been the ticket - TT's were recently "reclassified" by ins companies

and rate went up a lot with that.

Default I agree with suiTTman - You should call them and ask why your rates went up. With mine it was due..

to a reclassification. (The insurance industry has apparently determined that TTs are more expensive to repair than previously projected. NSS.)

Default I'm in Massachusetts

And I think that insurance rates are set by the state - so switching doesn't really help.

Default No, it's all due to the ticket (I just called)

It's essentially 3 steps (2 for the u-turn, and 1 for losing an incident-free year).

Default Yes, Insurance rates are set by the state. It takes 6 years for the tix to get off your record...

If you just got the tix, I didn't think it would show up until your renewal (unless you just renewed)

If you had a step 9, you will still be getting a credit from the safe driver plan. But if you have an at fault accident or other tix, then you will be surcharged. $600 seems high, but could be right.

Our insurance is about $1400/yr or so (in MA)225TTR with safe driver credits (step 9), AAA discount, multi car, lojack...

If you feel it is too high:
1)ask why.
2)have 2+ cars, you should have a multi car discount.
3)increase your deductible on collision and comp.
4)get AAA and go to commerce insurance (6%)

switching companies will not change your rate (unless you go to commerce w/AAA or get a discount at work, etc)

I have not been notified of a rate change as of today. Your coverage page should list why it went up (tix, rate change, etc).

Paul
