Default Increase TT trunk space and get more front leg room ...

This is for people that don’t carry rear seat child passengers very often and don’t need trunk privacy. This is also a great temporary TT modification to carry more stuff on a long trip.

Like many small cars, the TT seat backs take up a lot of storage space and you can’t fold them down and still move the front seat back for maximum front leg room.

However the good news is that you can easily remove one or both rear seat backs on TTs. This results in both increased leg room up front and a larger and much more usable open rear storage area. Taller drivers will particularly benefit from this.

You will lose the ability to safely carry small children in the back seats. However the rear seat backs and shoulder harnesses can be reinstalled in about 20 minutes.

So how do you remove the seat backs?

(1) Pry up the rear seat bottom. there is a snap in connector at each end, in front.
(2) Remove only the two hex head bolts that secure the shoulder harness and seat backs. these are clearly visible after the seat bottom is removed.
(3) Slide the seat back brackets out of the star drive bolts and remove the seat back.
(4) Reinstall the rear seat bottom.

You’re now done, but you might want to install a filler in the horizional opening that is left in order to reduce noise. Your enlarged trunk could use some protection like a large piece of heavy fabric or rubber pad. You should also remove the privacy screen because the rear storage area is now visible.

No question, the leather rear seat backs look better when the back is empty, but when you are carrying stuff back there it will look cluttered either way.

Remember, it isn't permanent and it really doesn't take long to change it back.

If looks are always more important, you should probably not do it unless you are taking a trip and need more room.

Default No photos, but...

if you like the idea, try it and see how it looks.
See if you like the extra room.

The leather seat backs do look nicer installed than removed.

It's real easy to reinstall the seat backs if you don't like the empty looks or when you don't need the room.

Removing the seat backs isn't for everybody.
