Default Autocar (UK) magazine

Just caught a quick glimpse of this weeks Autocar which had a scoop on a new 310bhp Boxster. Apart from pounding the current 911 it's more direct competition is the soon to be AMG SLK, uprated Z3 and more to the point 3.2 litre V6 TT! Hoorah more evidence.

Autocar couldn't have got the scoop news wrong twice!

Default TTS with VR6 - too bad

Sorry, although I hear the hp numbers will be up around 300 or more hp - it also means about 100 more pounds of weight to an already very heavy car. The new 24V VR6 is a wonderful engine - but I would have loved to have seen then go with something different - like a turbocharged VR5 - but I guess that the "V6" designation sells cars. As more and more companies are making lighter cars - VW and Audi keep adding on the pounds. It's too bad too - cause they have the technology to make them lighter.
00 GTI GLX - Black/Tan

How do you estimate the weight increase? V6 has alu block, as opposed to I4.

The new VR6 has a cast iron block - not an alloy block - unless the one going in the TT is a special version. The weight difference is based upon the difference in weight between a Jetta GLS 1.8 T and a Jetta GLS VR6 - both have the exact same wheels and tires and standard equipment. The Jetta VR6 is 100 lbs heavier.
00 GTI GLX - Black/Tan
