Default Installed Powerflex bushings in front control arms.

these are the front bushings which is what changed on the mkI to mkII arms. i left the rears (of the fronts arms) alone. you DEFINATELY need a press to get the stock ones out. the new Powerflex units go right in by hand. car gets an alignment tomorrow, but so far..........i can kinda tell. feels a squeek sharper whipping in and out of traffic. it's about the same as 2psi more in the fronts. i was praying for more, but we'll see when i get on the track or canyons. definately not an expensive mod

Default Your comments are similar to another person who installed these...

I have the original MkI arms on my 3.2 and noticed a big difference, so it sounds to me like these bushings are an improvement, but something less than the original MkI arms.

Default Rear bushings are different...

between the MkI and MkII arms, the MkII ones have holes in them, the MkI's are solid. The rear bushings used in both are the same size, and the ones used in the MkI are used in a bunch of VWs, so they're readily available.

Default You mean this picture?

ETKA clearly lists different bushings, and a search here will also show that to be the case. I think I reversed the description (the picture's backward, too), and it's MKI rear bushings which have the holes.

1J0 407 181 bonded rubber mounting rear, to VIN 8N-Y-06000 for use with 8N0 407 151A and 152B (MkI arms)

1J0 407 181B bonded rubber mounting rear, from VIN 8n-Y-06001 and "for modified vehicles" and use with 8N0 407 151D (MkII arms)

Default I can assure that the Mark I bushings have the two kidney openings in them..

I've replaced bushings myself with a friend once now and we'll have to do it again when the new (unbent) Mark I's go in together with the bilstein/eibach setup.

Front bushings can be pulled out with a good size socket+threaded rod from homedepot..

Default I think the directional rears on the Mark I's make a difference too.. EighTT do you have a pic..

of your Mark I's with the new (VW) rear bushings pressed in ? I am *very* curious how they put them in, as I've seen all kinds of orientations (from factory) that are *different* than Bentley specs..

Audi wanted a controlled toe change. I was dismayed to see the replacement bushings have a simple sleeve. While the rubber may be stiffer, there is a greater thickness of it where you don't want more compliance, negating some of the gain.
