Default I've had better results in all my cars with Shell

I kid you not. Smoother idle and better mileage. My 1996 G20 with about 150k on it has had Shell from day one.

Must be a magic Dutch gasoline additive.

why ? maybe shell is cheating on their octane rating.. does lower octane = better guess mileage?

Sheesh....and after 23 years of exclusive Shell was thinking of switching to Mobil.

Default Don't know. :)

I don't think lower octane = better gas mileage. Probably the opposite.

Default I used to have a hypothesis about this

...because it seemed that gasolines with a lower octane rating would result in lower mileage.

I used to think that this was because the higher octane rating of 'premium' gas would result in a more controlled flame propagation, hence more power, hence less need to heavy-foot it for the same acceleration. That was my hyposthesis, anyway.

Shell just seems to have cleaner stations and a tighter dealer network overall in my experience. The stations I visit most: Hamilton Ave in Campbell, CA, Chowchilla Shell on CA highway 99 and Los Banos Shell on CA highway 152.

Default Actually, I was always told...

On American V8's at least to go with the lowest octane rating possible for more power, as long as it doesn't retard your ignition timing.

Default I used Shell for years until my gas guage started jumping even after my fuel sending unit was

replaced twice. Dealer suggested switching to Chevron and I can't believe the problem went away.
