Default Interesting, my TT was mistaken for a VW....

I was at a Chevron gas station this morning in Palo Alto and a middle aged man walked up to me and said, "Wow, I thought Volkswagen stopped making Karmann Ghias, that must be a 2001 model, huh?" I told him that it was an Audi TT and he replied, "So, they changed the name from the Volkswagen Karmann Ghia to the Volkswagen Audi TT, huh? I don't know why they would do that, I kinda like the name Karmann Ghia better." So, I spent another 30 seconds explaining it to him. Now that I think of it, the TT can actually pass as a 2001 Karmann Ghia, if it ever existed.

VW fought to have the TT as their new generation Ghia. They lost the infighting.

Default I wouldn't mind being mistaken for a Ghia... as long as they don't make squished beetle remarks...

then I have my plates to shut them up...

Default Amateur. People have been calling my TT a VW since June 27 1999. :)

I used to hate it, now I just feel all warm and superior all over.

Default Never will be a new Karmann Ghia as Ford owns the Ghia name

Karmann is/has been working on Karmann coupes and have some prototypes but they lack the style of the original Ghia. The TT has that same style in spads and a hell of a lot more speed. I would expect Karmann to come out with something within the next few years, but it will not be a Karmann Ghia.
For me at least the TT has the style and spirit of the Ghia just fast fowarded with 40 years of tehnological advancements.

Default I went to the dealership to look at an A4 my wife always thought the

Ghia was a cute car. She actually encouraged me to look at the TT. She sid the styling was more me. But I think it really reminds her of the old Ghias she saw when she was a kid.

Kinda Cool!

Default I overheard a man and his 5-year-old son walking by my house ...

Son: What kind of car is that, Daddy?
Dad: That's a Porsche.
Son: What?
Dad: A Porsche! A Porsche!
Son: I don't think so ...
Dad: It's a Porsche!

... pretty smart for a kid struggling on a tricycle.

At least he knew about the Ghia. It's tough getting old.
