I was at a Chevron gas station this morning in Palo Alto and a middle aged man walked up to me and said, "Wow, I thought Volkswagen stopped making Karmann Ghias, that must be a 2001 model, huh?" I told him that it was an Audi TT and he replied, "So, they changed the name from the Volkswagen Karmann Ghia to the Volkswagen Audi TT, huh? I don't know why they would do that, I kinda like the name Karmann Ghia better." So, I spent another 30 seconds explaining it to him. Now that I think of it, the TT can actually pass as a 2001 Karmann Ghia, if it ever existed.

Karmann is/has been working on Karmann coupes and have some prototypes but they lack the style of the original Ghia. The TT has that same style in spads and a hell of a lot more speed. I would expect Karmann to come out with something within the next few years, but it will not be a Karmann Ghia.
For me at least the TT has the style and spirit of the Ghia just fast fowarded with 40 years of tehnological advancements.

Ghia was a cute car. She actually encouraged me to look at the TT. She sid the styling was more me. But I think it really reminds her of the old Ghias she saw when she was a kid.
Kinda Cool!

Son: What kind of car is that, Daddy?
Dad: That's a Porsche.
Son: What?
Dad: A Porsche! A Porsche!
Son: I don't think so ...

... pretty smart for a kid struggling on a tricycle.
