Default can't use controls; can't see screen -- issues for you?

am I seeing this right? or would you just hit shuffle, and go? if cassette thingie fails, is your iPod kinda stuck?

Default It works.

Line-outs on the left, power on the right.
Resistor from pin 21 to GND.
Power is on the "FireWire" pins, 8-30VDC, perfect for the unregulated variable voltage in a car.

Remove the voltage, like turning the ignition key off, puts the iPod into 'pause.

However, turning the key back on, does not start the iPod, you need to hit the 'play' button.

Ignore the hot melt glue, it's needed to keep the small wires in place. The dock connector is very fragile.

Default All Part of Research & Development ; )

What I would set out to do is build a motorized compartment to house the iPod that would most likely be connected to the headunit via a "Dension/Dice" like adapter. I could then control the iPod through the head unit and might even have the ID3 displayed as well. This is just a Cool Gadget to store the iPod. Of course I would also implement an emergency eject. I never said this was going to be an easy or cheap Project (but it's not impossible). My only concern would be the iPod compartment location.

Default I would just make adapters for the rails :)

Most likely I couldn't afford to upgrade to the endless updates from Apple anyways

Default I once saw an MP3 player a few years back that was the exact size and shape of a cassette

for this very purpose. It responded to the ffw and rev buttons too. I'll see if I can find it...
