Default Issues driving to shop with a loud wheel bearing?

Hi guys,

So in addition to my door latch, a wheel bearing went this morning...sounds kinda loudish. My shop is about 7-8 miles away (all highway), how safe do you think it is to drive on a noisy bearing? I have to drive to/from work tomorrow as well (about 6 miles backroads total). Is it 100% not a good idea, or is it generally OK as long as it's not for an extended period of time?

Thanks,
TTsumi

Default So I should be good for a few miles until Thursday... :) Would you believe >>

This is my first wheel bearing replacement in any vehicle I've owned or driven? I could've sworn I just checked them a month or two ago and there was no play (jack up and yank wheel method)..I guess they can go at any time.

Ha-Ha, I've been driving one bad on the A4 for a month, it's not getting louder, I need to fix it.

you can drive it for a long time, you'll know when it gets worse.

Default What is it with Audi and wheel bearings?......

I have replaced all 4 in my A4 Avant at least once and one on the TT. I had an old Mustand in High School with original bearings (though repacked) for 200k!

My audi mechanic told me this is a good part of his repeat business. There has to be a solution!

Default If you are pretty sure its the bearing then you can drive for a heck of a long time

Nothing more to really damage once the bearing is going.
