Default I think my device.map had /dev/hda1 instead of /dev/hda..

so that's why GRUB wrote to the partition bootsector instead of the MBR. Do you know where it saves the block when GRUB writes to it? I have the NTFS module already, but I couldn't mount the filesystem. Once I fixed the bootsector I could mount it and boot it again.

Default Re: Where do you go for your tractor stuff?

Ridgeway Mowers Sales & Svc (410-788-8383. They're on Frederick Road/Rt 40. You can return stuff that you buy from them. They'll come and pick up your mower and deliver it back as well. Very knowledgeable folks. I got my JD from them.

As for the cable modem. If you got Comcast, the only thing that the cable modem looks at is the computer name. It resolves ip assignment based on that alone. (At least for my cablemodem and those of my neighbors). I just stick a simple $70 firewall router (SMC7004) on the cable modem and reassign the router (which I can control and it also provides DMZ and DHCP services) on my network to whatever I want. Saves a lot of headaches from the linux server I used to use. It also allow me to reboot my servers without kicking everyone in the house off the internet. ;-)

Default Re: Use Partition Magic..

You can view the partitions independent of boot loader and even reassign the boot loader with its own boot commander. Use a tool like PM and just hide the linux partition or copy the MP3 partition to another drive that you can easily access as an extended partition.

Tony

p.s. PM doesn't care what format the partitions use (FAT/FAT32/NTFS/Linux).
