Jeff Bipes... Pimp Mod idea...

OK, you guys, you want results? How's this. Here's what I did tonight on my Roadster...
I removed the light console/bezel from my Roadster. It comes out fairly easy.
The lamp lens pops out.
<img src="http://people.mn.mediaone.net/jbipes/jpgs/led1.jpg">
The lens is removed and the lamp holder is pulled back here.
<img src="http://people.mn.mediaone.net/jbipes/jpgs/led2.jpg">
I fabbed up a piece of black plastic in the shape of the removed lens, that closley matched the color and texture of the bezel. As this is a "prototype", I didn't want to drill into the lens itself.
<img src="http://people.mn.mediaone.net/jbipes/jpgs/led3.jpg">
I used some Panasonic high-brightness LED's from DigiKey (dot com) P/N P408-ND. They are $0.96 ea. I used a 680 ohm, 1/4 w resistor for the proper voltage from 12V. I drilled 2 holes, slipped in the LED's, and wired the resistors and connecting wires. I soldered the wires to the metal buss bars on the back of the bezel. (not shown)
<img src="http://people.mn.mediaone.net/jbipes/jpgs/led6.jpg">
The added LED's on the fabbed plastic, from the front. The flash picks up the edges around the LED's, and it is not white looking in "real life"
<img src="http://people.mn.mediaone.net/jbipes/jpgs/led5.jpg">
The shot from in the car. The LED's are positioned so that they shine on my wrist, as I'm shifting. A few adjustments, and you could have them shine anywhere. They actually look really cool at night.
<img src="http://people.mn.mediaone.net/jbipes/jpgs/led8.jpg">
It took about an hour to do this. Now all I gotta do, is figure out a "kit" for this...

Or even better
Mount white LEDs on the buttons for reading lights spots, red LEDs where you have them for spots and wire the existing reading lights to run with the main switch and center light for blinding white flood...
I think the red spots woud be perfect for illuminating the Cell phone holder, IPAQ holder and Cup area!!!

That is pimp! I love it...
OK do you remember ohms law? Or do you look it up just before you need it?
I think you should keep the lens and mount the LEDs in it or on the push buttons. That way, you can still have the flood when you open the door...

Très cool! But it seems that the TTR light cluster is *way* different from the TTC.
Still think that I am going to do the below to mine plus recess the LEDs so they are "hidden" when illuminated. BTW, are the electrical parts easy to get from a place like Radio Shack?
