Just Bought 2002 Audi TT Roadster
And am thinking about chipping it.... I do not want to lose reliability or damage parts - just want some extra boost. I've read about APR, GIAC and others. Here are my questions:
I understand that when removing or replacing your original ECU you have a special tab or screw that has to go in as well? Otherwise the dealer will know what you've done and invalidate the warranty? Is this true?
Are there any shops in Florida (Miami area) which will do the installation of the chips?

Re: Dont know about warranty loss in the US...but we here can chip ABT without loss. Audi says YES !
I've read the controversy over warranty loss on all the forums. Some say that you only lose warranty on the part you replaced - others say you might lose the entire warranty. And others say you can always sue. But - who wants a 10k lawsuit to fix a 2000 repair? Thats why from what I've read - you've got to get the extra chip - and keep your original for replacement every time you want to get a repair done.

You will need to check your ECU location...
some 2002's are now reporting no "Chastity Belt" box.
This metal box that encloses the ECU with tamper-proof Torx screws. Rumor has it they will destruct when you remove them, and you need to replace them with the OEM ones, or the dealer may question you as to what happened.
at least one tuner is supplying these screws to help return the ECU box to OEM-looking.

if you are that worried about chipping your car I don't suggest you do it
Chipping will cause you to lose reliability and damaging parts is always possible.. Ive always been under the impression if you chip you would have to match the other parts of the car with the additional hp.. Things Id say need upgrading. Exhaust, and DV..

Look at it like this.
Audi spent a lot of money engineering the tt. By chipping the car, you're instantly cancelling out the bazillions Audi spent in engineering. If Audi wanted the car to be chipped, they'd supply the chips themselves.
I have a 225. My car is fast enough, as is, thank you.
Cheers,

Sorry - Car companies engineer vehicles for world wide distribution. Engine mods by country are tough.... add-ons ok. Thats why they detune engines to meet the needs of various countries. So- while I respect your opinions - I'm not sure its accurate to say you "lose" out on engineering. I could likewise respond that Audi works with several chip companies in their own racing program.
