Default Just got back from my two week road trip (Little long)

My wife and I drove from Las Vegas to Minnesota then to Indiana and then down to Texas and back to Vegas. What a trip!!!! During this two week ordeal we encountered many climate changes and interesting Happenings to the TT along the way.

I incurred a couple of problems along the way and thanks to all you Geniuses out there I was able to search the forums like a good Lil newbie and fix my problems.

Here's one that gets me........I have tried to search for it but am not sure how to word it.

My car will drive great all day. I just got a few upgrades done and got back from Iraq two weeks ago. So I am sure all of you enthusiasts could understand my anxiousness to see what new power the TT has. Well I am running an HKS BOV from ECS and haven't had any problems what so ever. I have had it thoroughly checked out by that computer program called (Vag-com) not sure how to spell it but that program was the one that lead me to a suspected O2 sensor failure. Great thing!!!

Any who, she'll drive great all day but once I try to push it towards max speed she sometimes has trouble getting passed 120. After a run like that I'll slow down to a much safer speed like 70 or so. Then as I push on the gas petal I just don't get the response I previously did before the 100mph mark. The TT will then run a little sluggish for the remainder of the evening or until I stop, pop the hood and spend 20 minutes trying to see if I have any more vacuum lines disintegrating.

Usually after that rest period, she'll start up and BAM!!! All that get up and go is back. What is the deal? The only thing I can think of would be that the engine heat is causing the BOV to stick open a little. Then when I let the car cool down a little the Valve reseats itself and then continues to build up pressure.

Any suggestions out there?

Default You have probably just experienced Heat Soak.....>>

Push the car a bit, and that little side mount intercooler isn't enough to scrub off the turbo heat. Hot air at the manifold results in timing and other parameters being set to more conservative levels (I.E LESS POWER). Whe you stop and let it cool down, it all comes back cause the temps are lower. On the BOV, That is not a good idea unless you have it set up with the recirculation parts and not blowing off to the atmosphere.

Default I was thinking the same thing >>

that totally makes sense. As for the BOV , I have read and read all about it. But I have had it checked out a couple times since then but nothing negative has been showing. No check engine light...nothing at all. I have only had it on for two weeks but trust me, I have thought about the what if's and have had a Baileys in mind. ECS swears by it and for $300 that's kind of hard to just throw away.

Default They sell a recirculation kit for that valve...>

Which plumbs it back into the intake for recirculation. Your car is probably running a bit rich now (if it is in fact running in BOV mode). It will run better in recirculation mode...

It may already be that way and you don't know it...Does it make a very loud Phisssshhhh souund when you shift? Just because a valve is known as a BOV doesn't mean it's set up that way. Who installed it and who advised going BOV?

Default Firstly, let me say thanks for representing in Iraq. Secondly...

I've had the same problem twice on road trips, and it was indeed heatsoak. I have since made several changes, and have not had that problem again. I went from a Neuspeed P-flo to Steve's VTDA, and I changed my oil. I know that they say Mobil 1 is good for something like 15k miles, but I'm changing mine at 6k or so.

Default Thank you very much, being a pararescueman is crazy bussiness>

But it pays the bills.

I agree it is probably heat soak and I will need an Oil change soon. I have Mobile 1 5W30 in right now and change mine every 5k.

As for the popular VTDA I have considered it and might go that route.

Default You are right Mr. TTschwing >>

Oh believe me , when I called myself a newbie I didn't mean it Literally. I have had many awesome cars but I am keeping a modest attitude because this is my first Euro. No one likes a wise *** that just happened to recently join a forum.

The BOV does in deed make that loud noise which kind of puzzeled me because ECS claimed they had sent me the recirculation kit with it. All I know is Japanese cars and figured Euro's were just a little more complex.

I do all my own work, well most of it anyway. I researched for months about the pro's and cons of a BOV and the DV. I then contacted ECS and they claimed they hadn't had a single problem with the BOV. So I took their advice and wanted to try it.

Everyone claimed a BOV for our cars weren't compatible unless a recirculation kit was in use. I understand why and know all the theories but I was advised the HKS wouldn't cause a problem due to the setup.

since the install , I haven't had a single problem. I will also be taking it in saturday to my local guy to run some more tests and see if we can aleviate this Heat soak issue a bit.

Default Someone is confused...>

You, me or ECS. Shoot a picture and I guess we'll know. On the heat soak issue, you've got to deal with it. Basically the best place to start is a larger intercooler. Here's 2 cars, both cranking about 290 hp. One a stage 3 180 with a single side mount intercooler, and my car with a front mount. Figure the other car is losing about 20 hp to heat alone...
