Most no plate tickets are fix-it tickets where you have to show you've resolved the issue.
Since most states require the front plate to be "firmly affixed" more officers are tugging on the front plate as they've gotten wise to the magnet trick (as well as the double-stick tape trick and the hook-and-loop fastener trick...)

I just made some j-hooks that hook onto the grill. The other end is threaded and allows fastening the plate with two little nuts, just as if it is permanent. After inspection ($10 in Calif.), unscrewed and unhooked them, and saved them for the next time, which so far hasn't happened. I started with threaded j-hooks that you can buy at any hardware store and then rebent the hook so it can easily hook through the grill.

We've decided to let the dealer put on the front plate when we pick up our TT on the 30th. Thought long and hard but decided we didn't need to give them an excuse.

that way you have an unblemished panel that can be taken on and off. will save you $$$ down the road.
