New 2002 225TTQ coupe, Silver, black leather. Beautiful. Thanks to all for helping me decide to purchase it.
Anyone have any thoughts on the break-in period. I know that red-lining is out but anyone have any recommended driving procedures?
Finally, a couple of days ago, someone posted a question about the need to "cool down" the engine (turbo)after "hard driving on long drives"...... the Owners manual for my 2002 says "yes, cool down for approximately 2 minutes by letting the car idle."
Thanks in advance for any ideas on the break-in period...... and keeping my fingers crossed on reliability issues......

Don't go over 5k RPMs for the first 1000 miles or so. Don't use cruise control at all for the first 1000 miles. Make sure you vary your engine speed occasionally if you're driving on the highway...Shift back and forth between 5th and 6th or just speed up and slow down occasionally. I did all this and I'm up to 38000 miles with no engine problems.
As for turbo cool down, the 225 TT has a coolant pump that keeps circulating coolant for a while after you shut down. This should do the job most of the time if you just drive kinda slowly (ie: not like you're in a race) for the last couple of minutes before you arrive at your destination. If you do drive hard before you get where you're going, just let the car idle for a little while before shutting it off. Once again, this is what I do, and I've had no problems.

If you drive like a granny for a while, it will adapt to that, and supposedly goes into granny mode. I couldn't tell much of a difference when I reset mine (unplug the ECU for like 15 or 20 minutes to reset it.)

pumps oil through the turbo? The whole point to a cool down period is to allow cool oil to run through the turbo and to keep the hot oil out of the lines.. If you left hot oil in the turbo and the lines this could causing caking of the oil which could possibly clog the lines which would prevent oil from getting to your turbo and destroy it... I totally agree about your breakin method I did the same thing..
