Just received and installed the Forge DV I bought from Gary (GWR). Amazing once you look at the...

build quality (or lack of) of the OEM DV. I had an "N" valve and it is basically a molded piece of plastic. (I know that looks don't determine quality but it certainly doesn't look or feel like a part in a $40K car.)
I was on my third (second replacement) DV at 23K miles and the new one was already making noise. The Forge is quiet, no sounds of leaking when releasing the throttle. Will let it out tomorrow to see if I "feel" the difference.
BTW, Anyone want to buy an "N" valve with 3K miles?

base my opinion on empirical data. Three failures in 23K miles, dealership who tells me they go through them like candy and other forum owners with failures.
So empirically, the design is flawed. Either it's a manufacturing tolerance issue that produces some good ones and some bad ones or it's environmental effects like three months of 99 degree days here in Texas versus other parts of the world. Either way you can't argue it's a good design just because you have one good one.
Of course, mechanical engineering is all about cost versus quality. One of the first courses in design you get is how to design an axle for a washing machine that is minimum cost but has 98% of the units lasting at least 7 years. I'm sure similar tradeoffs were there for the DV. Maybe the design engineer missed a tick on his slide rule.
