Default Just took the TT in for Timing belt, and the Mechanic Called.......

He noticed the Thermostat in the kit I got and wanted to know if I wanted him to install it????

Said he may have to add another hour of labor???

True or is he spinning a yarn? (I mostly trust him, but.....)

Default true...

I didn't do the tstat when I did my timing belt because its basically a separate procedure.

You might as well do it while it's there.

Yea, tell him to do it, but if everything else is off, it should only take him 15 min. or less.

Default Thermostat does not need to be replaced unless it is giving you issues

Yes it is probably about another hour of labor. I've never understood why timing belt kits come with a thermostat--they are completely unrelated. The only benefit I can see is that the coolant is drained at the time of the timing belt service.

The thermostat does not need to be replaced at any specific interval. (That being said, mine did fail around 100K miles -- but that's my car.)

If you do decide to have it replaced, MAKE SURE it is an OEM thermostat. Most timing kits come with a Wahler or some other aftermarket brand, which does not work as well as the OEM and will result in overheating.

It will most likely take him 15 minutes or so, but he will still charge the whole hour!

If he does it...make sure it is OEM and not a Wahler....Wahlers make the car run a bit warm
