Default Just when you thought 30 minutes can go by without anyone mentioning the word "Bypass Valve"...

I finally changed mine today after it sat on my desk for about a week and a half. There is no noticeable humming anymore. I have a smoother and slightly stronger acceleration. It took just about half an hour to change the valve.

Thanks MC.

Default Did you "zap" the ecu?

Default Nope. I got lazy. Hopefully I'll get around doing it tomorrow. Does resetting the ECU help?…

I've heard rumors that it helps the performance some.

Default I, too, asked this question. (more)

The consensus is that clearing out all the bad learned behavior from the faulty valve and starting with a clean slate helps enormously.

I found disconnecting the two ecu connectors and re-connecting them the hardest part of the dv swap. You really need four hands.

Default Sorry, haven't read all the old posts but ---->

Is this "diverter valve" problem only an issue on the 225 TT? I have a 180 TTQ. Should this be something I need to know about? I'll be getting my Garrett chip in the next week or so so if this is something I need to be concerned about I'd rather deal with it now while my car is ECU-less.

I'll borrow another set of hands tomorrow and try it.

Default As far as I know the 180 TT also has the DV Hummmm. It will be more pronounced with a chip...

So you can wait and see but it won't hurt to replace it beforehand. Listen to your car's engine carefully when you drive it next time. The hum starts around 2500 and continues 'till about 3500 rpm +/- 200 rpm. It's a fairly low tone. Turn on the air-conditioning to load the engine and then slowly (not too slow) accelerate to about 4500 rpm in 1st or 2nd gear. If your B.P valve flutters you'll hear it.

Did you get your car fixed (the parking lot snafu)? Did the body shop do a good job?

Default True!

Reset it with a Vag tool or take it out and re-install it.

Leave the key in the on pos for three min before starting. Then start and let idle for a few minutes. DO not touch the gas pedal during any of this..

I am glad you like the valve...
