Default k04 capabilities?

since more psi = more hp, why is nobody turning up the boost higher on th k04 anymore... how high can the turbo run safely? high boost does lower reliability obviously..saying all that, how high has he k04 been tested to?

Default Efficiency range is limited...>

I can turn up your boost to 25psi or so with a Boost Machine BTW, BUT, A KO4 is basically a small turbo and can only do so much. There are things called Compressor Maps, which outline a Turbo's efficiency range. When you start getting into the 20's you start loosing efficiency and generating a lot of heat. Compressed air is hot air. The more you compress it, the hotter it gets. Unless you're dealing with the heat you may be loosing as much as you're gaining at those levels. That said, I generally set my car to boost around 22-23 psi in day to day use, but I've got all the cooling mods to handle it. A KO4 is only good for 300hp or so. Anything more is gonna take a bigger turbo..

Default Re: 300 crank right? what kind of tq is there at that point?

do you think that bigger injectors would help? more gas might make it run cooler raising the boost possibilities?

Default It's not about PSI...>>

It's about air volume, more pressure only means more heat to achieve those pressures thereby decreasing efficiency of combustion and reducing hp. A Garrett and a K03 will both achieve 20 psi, but the bigger turbo will do it with less effort (more volume quickly) and less heat. The goal is to achieve the highest amount of volume with the lowest intake temps. Most high hp motors (force induction v8s) use pretty low boost levels. My friends 7.5 second Mustang only runs about 20-25 psi, but the IC is ice packed and gigantic. If you are looking to upgrade I think you are definitely better off looking at something bigger than a K04, it's just not worth all the time and energy it takes to install it.

Default Steve, for the curious, could you spell out the list of "all the cooling mods to handle it"...

I imagine that TTDA and FMIC are on the list, but what other items do you put in that bucket?

FMIC is th ebiggie. You can add the intercooler misters too.

Default What about if the K04 is port and polished, clipped wheel and then ceramic coated for heat??????

will that make the K04 worth having, what im asking is with that stuff done making the turbo basically more efficient, and more air flow its then capable to produce more HP right? ? ?

Default Cooling stuff...>>

In addition would include

FMIC (biggy)

Samco (Smoother flow)

Mainifold insulators (I measured 20% reduction at the manifold)

Maybe Misters, but Mine's so cool now I rarely trigger them
