Default Key Fob Mystery! $^%($&!!!! Help please!

Ok, soooo here's the situation.

My mother is borrowing my TT tomorrow since a pothole ate her car and I'm working from home. I brought the car over to get them "acquainted". I go to unlock the door, no dice with the fob. No biggie, I figure it's a battery.

I replace the battery. Still doesn't work. No biggie, I'll reprogram it (valet key, on, door locked, hit button [lights didn't flash]...).

No dice reprogramming, so I fool around a little bit.

I tried holding the key in the lock position while holding unlock and vice versa.

After fooling around like that, I have the key fob working, but ONLY FROM INSIDE THE CAR! It won't work outside.

Plus, a few times, it made it so the window wouldn't drop, the lock/unlock buttons wouldn't work, and the key only locked/unlocked one door at a time without arming the alarm.

Well, for her, it's safe now, because putting the key in the door will lock/unlock both doors and arm the alarm...

But what the hell is going on??????!!!???

It's the TT's last defense mechanism. It knows mom can't protect it from potholes.

Default Man, neither of my key fob's work... I think others (with working fobs) just sit and laugh at us>

lol : )

I haven't heard of a way to reprogram them besides the method you described. I tried to make an apt. with Audi but they wanted to charge me and wouldn't explain the procedure they were about to try so I said forget that. I'd rather spend my 200 bucks on a aftermarket car alarm that works with the stock key fob or something...

Default That sucks! Mine worked fine for a year! >>

If nothing turns up on here, I'll take it to my indy guy tomorrow - he'll try it out for free.

If not, I'll stop by audi. The dealer I use is the one that programed it originally and did it for free...but what a hasselhoff!

Let my mother drive it for a day. She brought back a little bit ago and everything worked fine!

Yet another reason why us Irish love our mothers!
