Default I've been using this filter and it fits fine....doesn't touch anything at all.....

you may have to remove that intercooler pipe to get it in on the 225, but no biggie. don't have a oil temp guage so can't say how much difference it has made. The guys on Vortex have found even a bigger filter, but if I remember correctly it touches some of the hoses down there. Default I can fab stuff - I just want to make sure I get the right core size and lines

and I also want to put my oil temp and pressure sender in at the same time.

Default VW's quick fix for sludge-prone 1.8's in fore-aft setups like Passats and A4s

Increases oil capacity a bit, like maybe 1/3 qt? I use these mongo-sized filters on my wife's Passat (I think they were originally spec'ed for VW diesels). As joe@vwvortex explains below, given the transverse 1.8 already has an adequately-large oil capacity, I don't see the benefit. And the "small" filter is already a PITA to extract, so why make your life any more complicated?

Default Can't see why anyone would not use this filter. It may take a little longer to get it in there.....

but, this is really minor as it will take maybe 10 extra minutes to install....In return, you get somewhat more oil capacity and good amount more filtering power.....

Default Because it really is unecessary, especially when you are changing your oil every 5k

with good synthetic. No one is saying NOT to do it - just it's not worth the extra hassle.

Default Got my stuff here>>>>

great service.....SS lines are gorgeous and the compression fittings are some of the best i have seen....

On length....i bought 10ft....gave me extra to work with especially as I am prone to error the first time around! ;-)

I went with the 235 Core with 16 rows of cooling...it is big, and it was tight in the fender (think minor trimming of the cooler tabs) the 115 would probably be enough in hindsight...or you can go with the product Scwhing went with and just order BATINC's hoses/fittings. Just make sure you get the correct AN size...(do not forget AN wrenches either)

Other than that...you only need a thermostat sandwich plate....Best bet is call them, as i do not 100% recall the size...(pretty sure it is an 18mm thread tho)

Hope that helps...<ul><li><a href="http://www.batinc.net">http://www.batinc.net</a</li></ul>

Default The "normal" OEM filter already claims 30,000 km (18k miles) of filtering life

I change my oil every 10k miles and still feel comfortable using the OEM filter. YMMV.
