Default Lazy tach fixed by replacing battery

Symptom: tach stays at 0rpm for 1-2 seconds after starting car, then jumps to proper reading. Not every start, but probably once a week or so.

Cluster was replaced (for an different reason) and the lazy tach wasn't resolved. Recently got a 2nd cluster replacement, and while the dealership had my car, the battery died. It was probably due since the car is over 4.5yr old, so I replaced the battery (w/ non-Audi). Lazy tach hasn't come back for 2-3 months. Another post linked lazy tach to battery, so here's another vote...

Default Interesting because that is pretty much the only IC-related issue I have...

My battery is original and the car was built 1/01. It hink I'll put it on the trickle charger and see how it responds after that.

Wouldn't hurt to try trickle charging, but my battery was so dead charging it didn't help. Lazy tach first appeared about a year ago, so I'm glad the new battery took care of that too.

Default You're due too John...>>

Mine was built 11/00......Started seeing lower resting voltage numbers this past summer. Replaced before TT-East to avoid a meltdown (like NasTTcar went through)...

Default Yeah, and mine also discharged fully once, as a result of the sticky brake light switch issue...

What happened to NasTTcar?

Default Hmm...already put dealer on notice of cluster issue, so maybe I shouldn't turn down new one>>

even if it is the battery, on the assumption that they are so problematic mine would probably go anyway - and maybe after warranty.
