Even the best lead acid batteries have a life expectancy of 3 years.

Default wouldn't be surprised if it just needs electrolyte....(long)

my A4, after the recommended oil change intervals and three years of driving my A4 2.8Q my battery went dead. I thought I needed a new one. During these minor service visits to dealer I took it for granted (dumb me) that dealer was checking battery water level. Guess what? they didn't, the battery died and when I took it back to dealer they found the battery dry and the tech chided me for not checking it. WTF? I proceeded to tell the manager that it was the techs yob to check electrolyte levels during warranty. He agreed and apologized. Lesson learned? Never rely on techs for stuff like battery checks. The battery, once filled to capacity with electrolyte and fully charged worked fine till my car was smashed by another driver and T'boned by the third....a Mustang no less. The lady who hit me with her toyota Symphony drove away with minor damage; Mustang had to be towed with about 8k in damage; my car? totalled! I trully believe it saved my LIFE! My Audi took a bullet for me!
