Default just replaced my 01 battery last month, after taking delivery.

it first died at the airport after which it was recharged by the dealer, with an "it happens all the time with these cars with lots of memory" explanation. it died a couple of hours later. it was then promptly replaced. no problems since.

Default Re: battery

As a Followup note to Jeff Bipes:
When you replace a battery don't you have to re-code the radio?..My 2000 180FWD coupe was purchased by me last July....I have not been able to get the radio code...I know if I need a new battery I'm out of luck at this moment...Dealer wants substantial money...says they must remove the radio etc. You know dealers...anyway...is there a way to recover the radio code using just the VIN or is it a major process...You can E-mail me so as not to take up Forum space ....

Default It depends. You can disable the 'SAFE' mode. Your dealer should be able to get you the code based on

the VIN.
They do not need to remove the H/U at all.

Do you have the manual at all?
The code should be in the separate book for the Audio System

No, The page where the code goes is empty apparently someone took it out...If I give them the VIN they can get it...you say they don't remove the radio? told me they have to open that , find some number and then go on the computer with the VIN....sound right or like BS? $35.

Default Total BS. Open it? tell 'em "That voids the warranty", that you want a new one!!

This can be done with the VIN number alone.

If you only need a VIN? they say they had to look on the back of the radio and take off the surrounding dash to get in? Car has been off warranty for a while from Audi..I have extended Warr....I'll try some other people locally too...can I get it on my own? Directions are in manual to re-program right?
Thanks

Default H/U removes form the slot it's in, no other parts of the dash need to be removed. Get a new dealer

there is NOTHING on the back, top, sides of the H/U that they need to re-code the 'SAFE' mode.
sheesh, these people are fools.
they need to submit the VIN number through Audi, and Audi will give them the 4-digfit code for the H/U
