I was a bit sleepy this morning, but nonetheless got up bright and early to serve as passenger/navigator for EconomisTT/David on the run to The Dragon at Deal's Gap.
For anyone unaware, The Dragon has over 300 turns over the span of 17 miles. You hit it on the way to and from lunch, so that means we're doing something like 650 twists and turns, not to mention the countless turns we hit on the 2 plus hour drive to Deal's Gap, TN.
The weather was rainy on the way up, but had cleared substantially by the time we hit The Dragon. I saw a lot of little memorials on the sides of the road, and trees that appeared to have been hit by cars, so you know these roads can be dangerous. Fortunately, I don't think our group had any problems, though a large tree fell blocking both sides of the road on the way back. As luck would have, some locals had axes and saws with them and cleared the roadway fairly quickly.
While the drive was fun, Dave and I both got headaches. This was probably from our brains sloshing back and forth so many times!
We saw a lot of State Troopers on the way back. One turned around and followed EconomisTT for awhile, lighting him up several times with radar. Then he pulled in behind us, and I thought we were cooked. Fortunately he pulled off shortly thereafter.
Now, we have a bit of time to relax before cleaning up for the dinner, raffle, and of course, cocktails later this evening. Everyone has been very nice thus far, and the event has been well organized.
I just uploaded a bunch of Deal's Gap photos, so to view these and others, follow the link below.<ul><li><a href="http://public.fotki.com/bwillis/socal_tt_club/tt-east_asheville_nc/">Pics Live from Asheville!</a></li></ul>
