Gag! If they can put Turbo-VR6es and V8s into TTs and S3s, then why...
...can't someone turn one of those neat 2.2litre 5cyl
turbo engines from the RS2 by 90 degrees and put it
into the TT??

Funny you should say that - one of the least talked about engines currently being developed is
a new V10. It will also spawn a new inline 5 which is being considered for the MKV platform cars. It may be either NA, turbo or both. I sure hope Audi decides to put one in at least ONE of their upcoming sports coupes, be it B6 based or MKV based.
