Default Low Coolant Warning!!

My low coolant warning light comes on. I check the coolant and its a bit above the Min line. Would this cause the low coolant warning? It did this once i didnt drive it for 3 weeks..but its stopped. Now its doing it again. What cause's the engine to loose coolant?

THanks, for the help

Default There are plenty of places for potential leaks...anywhere there's a hose connection but.....

are you noticing a drop in the level, or has it always been there? It could be a really slow leak, but are noticing any smell of coolant or seeing any on the ground under the car?

If you have a leak and it's hitting any hot part of the engine you'd smell it sitting idle or after you pull into the garage, etc.

Although, I don't think sitting just above the "min" line should set it off....could be a sensor problem?

Default yep...what paul said....replace the temp sensor with the >>.

green version and refill the coolant to midway in the tank. Recheck for leaks. Coolant will show up in the belly pan if leaking..so it may be time to remove and inspect. Even if leaking on the motor, some will wind up below....

Default You had me scared...

but I checked, and your warning wasn't true - my coolant level is fine.

As is your's, as you observed. No need to get excited, just do a search..."coolant level" produces 133 hits in the TT forum, including this one...

Coolant level

First time it did it, I didn't drive the car for 3 weeks. The second time was a week. the first time it stopped after i started driving it.. the second time i didnt get a chance to drive it. Yes it does it when the engine is cold.. so for sure its not overheating.

Default This happens to me when it is cold outside too.

I haven't gotten around to trying to clean the contacts in the tank.

Try the sandpaper on a stick trick to the prongs in the coolant tank.
