Default MAF Problem... Searched and Searched

I've been getting the infamous "P1142 - 002 - Lower Limit Exceeeded - Intermittent" error on my wife's 2004 3.2 TT (72k miles).

The car is running fine with no issues and the only indication (no pun intended) that there is a probelm is the CEL light.

The car is driven daily for a couple of 3-5 mile trips, and there is never an error or CEL. The only time this happens is when you drive for more than ~20 miles and the car sits and cools down, then on the next trip the CEL light comes on within the first few minutes. There are never codes on the first trip, just at the start of the second trip.

It started about 8 weeks ago, there were no changes/mods made to the stock car, but I did replace the battery about 6 months ago.

I started by pulling the MAF and cleaning it, per all of the suggestions, but the CEL came back on in the same manner as previsouly described and the same error was logged. The MAF was reading 2-3 g/s on VagCom at idle with no AC, after warmed up.

I bought a new Bosch MAF (didn't think this was the problem, but since it showed intermittent, thought maybe some weirdness was happening while driving) and installed it 2 weeks ago. There have been numerous daily short trips and no CEL. We made a 60 mile trip yesterday and on the way home, about 2 minutes into the trip, CEL again.

Same code as every other time... I do remember seeing a code about a temperature sensor one time before changing the MAF, but thought that was also possible for a bad MAF.

Looked for an obvious Vacuum leak(s), but have found none found.

Any Ideas?

Thanks in advance...

pressure test it, 3-5psi, if all is well check your ait sensor.
