Default The JL's will come with their own passive crossover. The rockford amps crossover sucks, so I suggest

you buy a dedicated crossover. Check out the Audiocontrol Three.1 or Four.1 or if all you want is active crossover the XS series(2XS, 3XS, 4XS and 24XS depending on how serious you want to get)
The other advantage to using an Audiocontrol component in your system is they have a built in line driver which will boost the signal from your head unit(usually 2-4volts RMS) to 9.5volts RMS. This means a stronger signal to your amp(s) thus less interfearnce and your amps don't have to work as hard. The piece in my system that is worth its weight in gold and has the most profound and noticeable affect on my car audio has to be my Audiocontrol 3.1

Trust me, your car stereo will not be to its full potential until you add one of these, its that simple. The closest comparasion I can think of is this unit makes car audio that much closer to home audio.

Default But does AAA or Audi Roadside carry spare tires? (more)

<center><img src="http://www.jlaudio.com/enclosures/prowedge/images/cs112.jpg"></center><p>I don't think so, and that's my point. If you had a blowout, you'd have to get the car towed. No thanks!
If you must have JL, you should probably look into the JL ProWedge (http://www.jlaudio.com/enclosures/prowedge/index.html) before you decide to throw out the spare tire. These enclosures are very small because the JL woofers perform well in a small, sealed enclosure. The benefit of going this route is that you can remove the enclosure completely when you need cargo room, want to autocross, drop the car off at the dealer, etc.
Your new system idea above (one 12") sounds much more practical to me. As you become familiar with car audio, you'll learn that more is not always better. However, make sure you give that one 12" enough power to make it dance.
Finally, I think you should have a look at the site linked below. This link will take you to the Polk Audio TT. Notice that Polk used a front-wheel drive TT for this install. After you're done looking at this, click on the "Discussions" tab at the top of the page. There's a car audio discussion forum there that will give you more information about car audio in general. Search for the products you're considering, and find out what people have to say about them.

My Audiocontrol Three.1 goes for $399 list. That doesn't mean you can't get it cheaper....
