Default Metal bits in the oil pan.

3 or 4 pieces about this size: []. Tech thinks that they are bits from the turbo's compressor. So.... out comes the motor for disassembly and going over with a fine-toothed comb.
Sigh.
I think I'll have a beer.

PS. Should still be ready by TT East.

Default You're pulling the turbo - look there first >

The bits would not be able to get through the intercooler to the engine anyway, imo, so I don't see that as having done damage, and wouldn't you know if the turbo were shedding - it'd be out of balance and wouldn't hold up long.

Default I dunno.

I was on the gas hard when the thing popped, and was probably at about 20-21psi boost. I had posted probably the day before it broke about how my car was down about 2psi on peak and hold, and that something just felt off. Granted, it was 100 degrees. I was doing a number of boost-watching accelleration runs. The tech thinks it's not impossible that those small bits came all the way through the FMIC. Considering that the turbo was at full spool, maybe it could have huffed them all the way through. Regardless, the thing still has to come apart.

Default Part of turbo compressor?????????????

Doubtful. One would have to have a hole in a piston top for this to be. Crankcase never sees airflow from intake or exhaust on 4 cycle engines. Some blowby from rings occurs necessitating pcv system, but there are no gaps large enough for foreign objects to travel from intake or exhaust into crankcase. At least we hope not. Have they done a compression test?

Default Yeah, they did a compression test.

The result was within the acceptable parameters, but on the lower end of that spectrum.

Default Yeah, I do love it.

The handling is great, the braking is pretty darn good, the engine is going to be beastly when it is completed, and the car is a head-turner everywhere it goes. What other car could I get for the money that would come close to this? I'm keeping this one for a while, and I'm glad about it.
