Default more power please

I have a 180 TTQC and after driving it for a year and a half, I would like more power. My question is: what is the easiest and most bang for the buck way to upgrade hp and torque? If I spend $500 on a chip, would I have to upgrade other parts of the car? I want more power, but I don't want to take the chance of shortening the usable life of the car (as long as it lasts me another 4 years, I'll be happy). Would I be better off spending the $2G and getting the whole K04 Kit? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanx in advance.

Best Regards,
the-breadman

Also, what kind of improvement should I expect in the 0-60 time? Any chance of getting in the 5s?

Default "I want some more" - Claudia, Interview with the Vampire.

"Of course you want more" - Lestat.

General consensus in the group is start with the chip.

After that, you can also look at the exhaust and intercooler (and as you have suggested, a K04 turbo kit).

I have experience with none of the above.

It depend on how much power you want. The first thing I would do is the chip(ABT,MTM). Don't worry about the HP rating just compare the torque curves. Increasing torque will decrease your 0-60 times and horspower will only increase your top end speed. Eventhough horse power and torque are related. The reason I didn't suggest the garret chip is it increases the redline to 7200(?) and the higher the rpms the higher the stress on the engine. If that's not enough then the Intercooler

Default Actually 7,100 . . .

Each of the chips actually does this, not just the Garrett chip.

I have put on more than 25,000 miles on my Garrett Stage I and II chips.

Default Any of the "big 3" would satisfy your need for more . . .

Since Abt is new to the North American market and they are still in testing phases last I heard I would/could not recommend their chip. I drove Pete from Strats 225TTR with all of his mods and the chip worked wonderfully, but they are still fine tuning it as far as I last heard. The 180 chips I have not heard a thing about.

As I said to texasaudi I love my Garrett chip and the 7,100 redline is not going to have any bearing on the life of anything in the car. You are not going to be driving there! ALL of the chip tuners raise the rpm and remove the speed limiter, this is something that is part of standard chip tuning.

If you want to know what sort of performance you can expect from a chip alone . . .

My '00 180TTQ with a 90+ pound stereo and about 40#'s of harness bar and harnesses was able to run 0-60 in 6.52 seconds. This was before I added my Borla exhaust. If I were to remove the added weight and test it now it will be in the 6.2-6.3 range easily.

The car is faster than a STOCK 225TTQ. Every 225 owner that has driven my car has even told me that and that was WITH the added weight I carry around!

If you have any other questions, either e-mail me or post something and I will respond to it. Let us know what you decide on.

Still testing? The ABT chip is the only chip you can order factory installed from Audi in Germany. And regarding the fine tuning most of the chip distributors are still fine tuning their chips including Garrett. Regarding the Rev limiter I haven't researched all of the chips but as an example the Oettinger chip peaks around 5500-6000 and then drops power. RPM is a factor in engine durability if not why do cars have rev limiters?
