Two questions first...
1) How many miles on the car, and have you had the brakes changed before? If you have high miles and no brake change, you could be rubbing on the indicator strip. This is a strip on some pads that intentionally makes a racket when you brakes are getting very low to remind you to change them.
2) If you have had your brakes changed, did you go with some sort of dust free or after market pads? If so this sometimes can cause glasing of the rotors. As much as we bitch about cleaning our wheels, that dust flying off removes heat and brake material, not rotor material.
Cartoondog.

well...
i just got the car in April. it has 26,7XX miles on it...
as far as i know, no brakes have been replaced and no service has been done on them.
it is not really making a huge racket, it is just making a *pinpoint* squeak of sorts everytime i hit the brakes
i thought there might be something stuck in it at first, like a pebble or something, but apparently not.
how many miles are they 'usually' replaced at?
thanks and cheers!

I've got a couple of Passats too, and they needed pads at 30K
I changed the TT pads from OEM to Mintex Redbox and got rid of all the dust.
I've got Stoptechs on the front and change those depending upon street driving or track driving.
