Default My new wheels :-D

So, I posted earlier that UPS delivered my wheels and tires. Let me give you the set up:

My stock 5 spoke wheels have served me well over the last 28 months. I've driven 41k miles on them and loved every mile. My only regret is that they were not 18" because I really like the way that size fills the well without the harsh ride (on Houston's bad roads) I would expect to get with 19" wheels. When I saw the ALMS edition TT in the flesh I knew I would one day get those wheels.

A couple of months ago I knew it would soon be time to change tires. I started to look around for tires and noticed the Replica wheels on Edge Racing's site and the auctions on ebay for the ones from the Wheel Exchange. I had questions about the quality and weight. I did not seriously consider the ebay set since I had not really gotten any info on the Wheels Exchange and I hated the center cap they used. They also had not gotten the design of the spokes quite right.

When I saw these on Edge I knew they had it right:

The center cap looked right and the spokes were exactly as they should be. Rumors went around the forum that they were made by the same company as the OEM wheels. While I doubt this is true I could tell Edge had the right idea. Here they are in my kitchen

To cut a long story short, I was able to sell my stock wheels for close to the price of the 9 spoke Replica wheels. I had Edge put some good tires on there for me. I had to move fast since my buyer wanted to get his wheels and I was only taking more risks running around on balding tires.

I was again surprised by how much you can put in a coupe: 3 wheels in the trunk and one in the passenger seat!

I checked the weight of the 5 spokes when they came off the car: 44.5 pounds with bald Kumho tires. The Replica wheels weigh in at 49 pounds with Conti Sport2 (235/40). I know the tires weigh 22.5 pounds (from Conti's official figures). What this means is that the Replica wheels are 4-5 pounds heavier at most. For the look and extra width (of both wheel and tire) I am very happy with that. If you get in on the PowerBuy at Edge you cannot loose! There are only a few days left on this chance to get these wheels at an amazing price (end of the month I think). I only wish I had been able to wait a little for this price but my car is my daily driver and I did not want to risk things with my tires any longer.

Speaking of tires, the Conti Sport2 seem very good. I'll wait a couple of hundred miles before giving a full review but I drove a TT this weekend with the same tire and I thought they were much better than the Kumho's I've had for the last year. They're not cheap though.

So, here are a couple of final pics.

The first is on an OEM ALMS wheel ($700+ each) on an Avus TT I saw this weekend

This one is of my wheel on my car today

Can you tell the difference? I can't, well apart from the price!!!

I am at least as happy with this change of look as I was when I unspoiled my car. In other words, I really love it :-D

If you want these wheels I would say that now is the time to pull the trigger. I doubt you will find a better price or a better company to deal with. I love to share good things with you all on the forum and this is one of those good things.

PowerBuy!

Default You will be happy :-)

I love the 235/40 tires. The extra width looks nice. I also love that I don't need spacers because these wheels really come out to the edge of the fender. The weather sucks here today but I will post some more pics over the next few days.

Default nice, you went with 18s right??

I'm leaning sticking w.the 17s and going w/the 5+5s just to be different. Nice choice!
