Default Some controversy here. Some synthetics are blends anyway, and some folks say...

that adding 20% synthetic gives lots of the benefits. At one time Mobil 1 wasn't 100% synthetic, but now says fully synthetic on the can.

I agree with you however to go all the way--don't mix. It's worth the couple extra $. Oh, yes!

Yes, I wasn't sure of the second number so I fudged it.

Default Great post.

I want my TT's "new" engine to properly break in - it didn't get the special oil from the dealer ;( - so I was thinking I would delay first change, use whatever the dealer does and at the 10k mark do Mobil one. Or is Redline really worth like 2x as much?

Thanks!

Default Redline is great oil but it's exspensive and not nearly as available as Mobil 1, so I use Mobil but

..Redline may make a little more power, I really am interested in Mobil 1 0W 30 though, and want to see how it perfroms on a dyno. Anyone care to do 9 baseline runs with Mobil 1 0W 30 then 9 with a competing oil? We just have to wait until someone does it; I'll be watching for this information, trust me. JIM

I ruined a set of thrust bearings on 5w-20 Mobil 1 (original formula)

John they are of their 4th formula now, if your point is Mobil 1 is not good I don't agree.

Default Not at all

I've been using Mobil 1 since it first came out; just a word of caution on viscosity, I would rather burn a bit more gas than have bits of thrust bearing clogging my filter.

P.S. There is no gap between 5W & 10W
