still nowhere to line it up, and it is VERY secure now, I think I should be fine.

Needs to be fully secured. Extra vibration can cause your hose clamps to loosen.

IIRC, my brackets didn't seem like they lined up, but once bolts were started, it all came together.

Save yourself a future calamity and make sure you get both brackets mounted and all 6 bolts installed. It will work.
