The warranty on my 2001 180 TTR is expiring, and my dealership offered me the following extended warranty, provided by National Auto Care:
- 3y, 4y, or 5y, 60k additional miles on top of what I have today (~46000)
- 20% discount on maintenance (for an estimated saving of ~$800 total. If I assume one service per 10k, or 5 services for the duration of the ext. warranty, that means that each service would cost $800 w/o the 20% discoun. GASP!)
- free rental during service
- covers timing belt replacement (which the service rep. said occurs around 50k on most TTs, instead of Audi's estimated lifetime of 105k)
The price is around $2300, almost the same for 3y, 4y, or 5y.
Notice that I had the clutch and transmission replaced on this car at ~37k mi.
What do you think? Your help and opinions are much appreciated. Thanks!

just in case. Personally, I found an independent mechanic to do oil changes and stuff, but for major services, the dealer would be the place to take it. But, keep in mind that if you leave the area, the 20% does not apply to a different dealer. I'm moving from San Jose to Los Angeles and I get to take my warranty but not the 20% discount. That's a little extra sumthin' to keep you coming back to the dealer that sells you the warranty. But, the timing belt is a costly item to replace out of warranty, as is the light cluster (which isn't suppose to last either) and every other little item in the car. Pretty much labor costs is what kills ya! So, if your window ever screws up or if your turbo blows out (hopefully you're not chipped)or your tranny goes out again, hey, it's covered!!! Service may be expensive, but fixing the goodies on this car is even worse.
