on. I had cleared it twice but figured it needed to be check. They tell me its the secondary air pump which one of you so concisely determined when I posted the codes I had gotten. Here's my question...they want $900 to fix it...$500 is for the part and the rest labor. I'm not going to do it right now since I won't be driving him much longer until spring. is it true, as they tell me, that not fixing it will ruin the catalytic converter?
Someone of you experts give me the real lowdown ;-)
Oh and for the first time in almost 7 years, I'm getting a new instrument cluster for a funky gas gauge. That is covered under my ext. warranty but unfortunately emissions parts (sec. air pump) isn't ;-(

that's what went bad on mine.
i first changed the secondary air pump...thinking that it was the culprit since that's what the VAG pulled up. CEL kept coming back and repeatedly state the same. so that's what i first swapped out.
then, not long after, the CEL came back on...same deal. narrowed it down to the relay itself. was rusty as though water leaked in. i think its a $8-12 part.
just a FYI.

is it an intermittent error or was it flagged as FAILED when you cleared it?
If intermittent, a vacuum leak can cause this error to crop up too...so it could be a cracked hose or a leaky DV..I would suggest holding off until it can properly diagnosed by a real mechanic...and not a dealer that just swaps parts....IMO..

good mechanics? If I'm going to keep this car longer than another year, I will need one. I doubt Ronzo will be anxious to do any work on it.
I'm not going to worry about it till spring either way. I have better things to do with a grand right now.
