Hello everybody,
I am the owner of a 2001, 225 TT (and also a Audi A6 2.7T). A few month ago I noticed a different felling when passing the 3rd gear. Kind of a grind, or more like felling the gear getting together, while on all other gears it's like butter.
I went to my dealership and had a run with their technical chief - he said everything was normal!
Frustrating but what can you do.
Then a month or two pass, and while pushing the car at 6,000 rpm, from 2nd to 3rd gear, with the clutch on the floor, the gear made a noise like if the clutch was not pushed. It happened 3 to 4 times.
I went back to Audi, had a run with one of their technical guy, I was able to reproduce it once with the guy. Left the car for 4 days.
But still the technical chief said everything was normal and they did not wanted to open the car.
I had discussions with him and also the chief of service. I compiled all 3rd gear problems found on this forum to show them that I was not alone and not crazy!
Because they were telling me that 3rd gear problem on TT is nearly inexistant. Common on S4 but never seen on TT!!!
While I was at the dealership one of their customer overheard me and mentionned he had the same issue on is Roadster! But still!
What should I do? It seems they are not believing me, obviously driving the car everyday you know something is wrong. But probably for them, they do not see enought TT to know.
You know what their chief of service told me when I mentionned the grind at 6,000 rpm. He told me I should not push to 6,000 rpm and I should get a Porshe if I wanted to do that!!!
Guys I need your help: I need ideas on what my problem could be so I can talk to them with more substance! I searched this forum, but I need more detailled possibilities.
Should I relay this to Audi Canada? Do you think they would care?
PS: my car is not modded. It's still under extended warranty.
Thanks for your help!<ul><li><a href="http://vanack.dyndns.org/tt/">http://vanack.dyndns.org/tt/</a</li></ul>

They could never duplicate. And of course it only happens when you are pushing the car. I just had my transmission fluid changed to Redline MT-90 like RoberTT just recommended and I have not had it happen since. Just took my car out for a spirited drive this weekend and never had it grind. You may want to have it changed and see it that fixes your problem. Good luck...let us know what happens.

It did on mine, to the point that it was happening when shifting around 3000 RPMs, and especially when the tranny was good and warmed up.
Make sure the dealer has it documented that you have complained about this, so when your synchronizers completely fail, you can say "I told you so."
I too wrestled with my dealer about this issue. But once I finally convinced them that it was indeed a problem, they agreed to tear down and rebuild my transmission.
