Default NEED HELP. Locating cooling temp sensor

I bought a spare. Last night, well before the car should have been warmed up, the temp guage was pegged and the warning light came on. My un-scientific test of pulling over a touching the engine told me it wasn't really overheating. I suspect it's the sensor but I can't find it on my '02 180 QC. Any pictures would be nice. I found one but it didn't give me any perspective (it was too close). I'm at the car now. Need to go to work.

TIA.

Default Found it.

Who would have suspected that it was under the smallest cover on the engine. You have to loosen the cover over the oil dip stick. It's right under the long extended part of that cover that goes around to the drivers side of the engine near the DV.

Default Make sure you seat the "O ring" in good. LOL! Personal experience here

and I lost a whole bunch of coolant as a result for not seating it in correctly. Lessons learned the hard way!

Ok. I'll double check that because I drove it right after and using the AC controls, watched the temp go up to 121 c. The code that I pulled last night was "...temp sensor low voltage (high temp)". I for get the number. I left the car at home and took the bus so I'll have to look into it tomorrow. Is there anywhere locally (Kragen type place) to get the G12 coolant? What brand name should I look for?

TIA

Default You won't lose much coolant..>>

Not enough to be of concern anyway, if you do it right. On a cool engine make sure you relieve any pressure by opening the coolant tank. Replace cover and prepair to swap sensors. You'll only lose a few ounces. Make sure the old o-ring is out before you insert the new sensor with O-ring..
