Ok, so I am an idiot and did not double check my brake pad thickness in the last 3 months. Mechanic said I needed new pads but didn't sound urgent. SOOOOO I went ahead until yesterday and then in the afternoon I hear it... the sound of metal on metal on my driver side brake. Since I had no choice I drove on it for about another hour until I was able to get home. Popped her up on a jack and checked for damage... Here is what I found... I need to know if I need to have my rotors refinished. My mechanic said he trys not to refinish cause he does not like taking metal off and (which he has not seen them yet) he thinks I should be able to just use my new pads (Hawk HPS) and let the pads do their thing and it should not be a problem. New rotors are out of the question right now since they cost $360 for each side, I just don't have $700+ to drop on rotors. So tell me what you all think...

Like I said, you can feel the scratches, but that is what they feel like. Not deep groves or anything. It would be like scoring a piece of metal with a knife. It was not like digging a knife into wood or anything like that.
Here is what the pad looked like

and a final idea... old pad next to new pad...

They don't look that bad. I'd have them resurfaced if they're within the wear limits. You should be able to get a set of rotors for a whole lot less...Tried ECS tuning etc.???

Tom, you might really want to check on those Carbotech Bobcat pads I was talking about....more rotor friendly than the Hawks, and I like them a lot.
David @ Pro Imports.com was very helpful in helping me get mine for the AP's.
Good luck!

They sell a brand that is not from AP with a thicker wall and heavier and uses a diffrent metal. The other rotors are the same overall dimentions and cost $220 each. Overall these brakes are larger then the Porsche brakes, etc. ECS does not carry rotors of this size.

If you have the hawks there, give 'em a shot...they have a tendency to "eat up" rotors from what people have told me, but temporarily, in your case, that might be a good thing...they'd "refinish" your rotors for you!

Not sure what to go to next, but I will give Pro Imports a call tomorrow and see what they can do for me. How much did they end up costing so I have a good idea on what I am looking at? The Hawks were only $110 locally and $87 online.
