Default Need some input on braking "balance" and thoughts on brake kits in general.

Thanks for your input on this, hoping for a healthy discussion here. I've worn out the archives, and 3 headaches later still am a bit unclear. Thanks to STTickman and others that have helped out already.

Would like a kit for upcoming events, considering Stop-Tech, ECS's 993 kit +/- rears (or maybe just drilled Zimmerman/OEM rears), Wilwood, etc.

Stasis and AP racing look very nice, but not for almost $1k *more* than the already expensive kits above.

I understand that there is this concept of "balance" and am trying to research this to do it right, but there's a lot of propaganda out there.

I know that you all like your big brake kits, so I don't really need testimonials, and they're probably all good kits; I'm just maybe hoping for more examples of braking balance and what that means. (I have read about it and understand the basic concept). Anything beyond 120-0 stops on the track affected? It all seems very theoretical to me at this point.

Would be adding to a 225Q, spring/shock sport suspension, 15/20 spacers, ALMS wheels (with 17" replicas for snows), neuspeed bar.

I can't emphasize enough how much I appreciate your help, thanks!

Default In a pinch, there are inexpensive solutions...

There's always these to balance the system...<ul><li><a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&amp;rd=1&amp;item=247563350 3&amp;category=42605">http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&amp;rd=1&amp;item=247563350 3&amp;category=42605</a</li></ul>

Stoptech warned against this solultion

Default sprinTTer did an ECS setup for both front and rears.

I don't think his bias is off. you should ask him about it...although he got the ECS porsche big brake setup in the front.

Default C'mon...Big rears with stock calipers...>

is pretty much a cosmetic mod. Some benefits in cooling and a little weight reduction, but same calipers used, same clamping forces, same pad area...

As to proportioning valves, I doubt there's a real race car in existence that doesn't use that system...

Default i agree. stoptech tells you no, because they don't make one yet >>

and besides, like Steve says, stock calipers, slightly larger rotor is going to throw off the bias? It will, only if you use stock caliper in the front...but with any 4-piston caliper and larger rotor, I highly doubt it. In fact, I feel that it should actually be better biased...isn't current OEM setup close to 90% up front?

Default very interesting...

How would the average person determine how to correct their balance though? The ECS balance formulas? OOh, never did like math : )

Default something about a moment arm?

Now, I hate physics, but I think it somehow affects clamping force. Probably not enough to do much in the real world, and I agree, it's mostly cosmetic. I still might go for this. If this "balance" is that important, it's just surprising to me that no one's really addressed this with a balanced kit. I know it's a complicated measuring process, but all the more reason why I don't want to have to do it...

I think OEM is around 70/30. (but in general, I agree.) Thanks.
